American Views on Iraq

Majority of Americans do not support unilateral actions against Iraq. A national KnightRidder poll finds that most Americans want UN support of any offensive in the Persian Gulf. Unfortunately, 83% of Americans could not identify how many 9/11 hijackers were Iraqi (correct answer: none).

While the administration mobilizes forces, some officials charge that administration hawks have exaggerated the Iraqi threat and have squelched any inter-administration dissent.
